Lindsey Vonn has emotionally announced her discharge from the hospital after a serious leg injury during the Winter Olympics. Vonn was airlifted to the hospital while participating in the downhill event in Italy, shortly after suffering an ACL injury.
Following multiple surgeries, Vonn was initially released from the Italian hospital to return to the United States for further treatment. In a poignant Instagram post, Vonn detailed her injuries, including compartment syndrome and a broken ankle, and praised her surgeon for saving her leg.
Describing her complex tibia fracture and the necessary fasciotomy procedure to prevent amputation, Vonn expressed gratitude for her surgeon’s expertise. She emphasized how the ACL injury, leading to the heroic intervention, was a significant turning point.
Despite a longer-than-expected hospital stay due to low hemoglobin levels and subsequent blood transfusion, Vonn is now out of the hospital but confined to a wheelchair due to a broken ankle. She outlined her anticipated recovery timeline, aiming to progress from a wheelchair to crutches in the coming weeks.
Looking ahead, Vonn mentioned a potential year-long healing process for her bones and the future possibility of ACL surgery. Expressing optimism and determination, she thanked her supporters and medical team for their continued care and assistance throughout her challenging ordeal.
