“Nathaniel Lykow Enters Summerside Mayoral Race”

Summerside local Nathaniel Lykow has announced his candidacy for the position of mayor in the upcoming municipal election, expressing his motivation to contribute to a better future for Summerside residents, especially his children, and the community that supported his family following a house fire four years ago.

Having grown up in Summerside, Lykow emphasizes his role as a concerned citizen rather than a seasoned politician. Despite lacking direct political experience, he believes his background in analytics, logistics, leadership, and community service, acquired from working in aerospace, managing various businesses including his own and his wife’s, and involvement in the cadet program, equips him with the necessary skills for the mayoral role.

Lykow’s key focus areas include enhancing Summerside’s electrical infrastructure, advancing affordable housing initiatives, and promoting commercial growth to sustain the city’s expansion and retain its youth, families, and enterprises. He has pledged to propose a reduction of the mayor’s salary by 50% if elected, indicating his intention to redirect the saved funds towards local initiatives like the transit system, food security, or emergency shelter, should the council reject the motion.

With a commitment to community service, Lykow aims to build upon the existing administration’s efforts, such as progressing towards a net-zero energy grid and expanding the city’s solar energy capabilities. He also plans to pursue provincial funding to ensure that residential and commercial developments remain economically accessible.

The municipal elections, including in Summerside, are scheduled for November 2, offering residents the opportunity to cast their votes and shape the future leadership of the city.
