In Montreal, two women lost their lives within days in separate cases believed to be related to intimate partner violence, leading to one man’s death and another facing legal proceedings.
The Montreal police reported that a 51-year-old man was discovered with stab wounds in an apartment on 9th Avenue in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough on August 15. Tragically, the body of 44-year-old Leakkhena Seng was also found at the scene, having been fatally stabbed. This incident marked the 15th homicide on the island of Montreal this year.
Two days later, a 35-year-old suspect was apprehended by the Montreal police service’s major crimes unit after being located with the body of a 41-year-old woman in another apartment in the same borough. The suspect is set to appear in court on Friday.
Responding to a 911 call, officers found a man with severe injuries alongside a woman at an apartment on 39th Street, near Paul-Corbeil Street. Both individuals displayed upper body injuries suggesting the use of a sharp object. Regrettably, this woman’s death became the 16th homicide on Montreal Island for the year. She was identified as a mother with multiple children.
Authorities have categorized these incidents as intimate partner violence but have not disclosed the man’s relationship with the children or the current status of the couple.
