Military Time surged ahead of Brachetto just before the finish line to clinch the $500,000 Prince of Wales Stakes on Monday in Fort Erie, Ontario, with jockey Fraser Aebly guiding the victory. Throughout most of the race, Military Time held third position before making a decisive move to overtake Brachetto and Keepmypowderdry at the Fort Erie Racetrack.
Aebly expressed his excitement after the race, mentioning, “He was fighting for me the whole race, it was crazy.” The race kept fans on edge until the final moments as the top three contenders, Military Time, Brachetto, and Keepmypowderdry, raced closely together. Ultimately, Military Time showcased superior speed, crossing the line first in 1.56.
Reflecting on the race, Aebly shared, “He jumped away well at the gate, and I aimed to maintain a forward position due to the track conditions. We established our place, and he ran smoothly for me.” Despite the competition intensifying towards the end, Aebly remained confident in Military Time’s ability to maintain the lead.
Military Time, who previously finished as the runner-up to Luster in the $1-million King’s Plate at Woodbine Racetrack, was the favored horse with odds of 2-1 for the Prince of Wales Stakes. In the race results, Brachetto secured second place, followed by Buium in third, and Keepmypowderdry settled for fourth among the eight competitors.
Notably, the absence of Luster in the Prince of Wales Stakes positioned Wando as the most recent horse to achieve the Canadian Triple Crown victory in 2003. The final leg of the Triple Crown, the Breeders’ Stakes, is scheduled for September 27 at Woodbine Racetrack, with live coverage available on CBCSports.ca and CBC Gem.
