Sky Q remains a beloved TV device in the UK, known for its ability to store content on its internal hard drive. However, a new competitor has entered the scene. Manhattan’s latest offering, the S4-R Freesat 4K TV Recorder, is similar to Sky Q in function, using a dish to deliver entertainment with the added benefit of no subscription fees. This new box provides access to over 100 free TV and radio channels, a full interactive TV guide, and the ability to pause live TV.
The Manhattan S4-R comes with a 500GB hard drive, capable of storing approximately 300 hours of content, and larger versions with 1TB and 2TB capacities will be available soon. Like Sky Q, the S4-R allows for recording multiple channels simultaneously and offers features such as pause and rewind for live TV.
Users can expect a user-friendly interface, search capabilities, and access to a wide range of on-demand content through various apps like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and My5. This device aims to provide a subscription-free experience with enhanced recording capabilities, allowing up to four programs to be recorded at once.
According to Alex Arbab-Zadeh, Manhattan’s COO, the S4-R offers a cost-effective alternative to subscription TV services, providing more flexibility and choice without the burden of monthly bills. The Manhattan S4-R will be available at retailers like Currys, John Lewis, Argos, and Richer Sounds, with pricing starting at £219.99 for the 500GB model, increasing to £249.99 for the 1TB version in May, and £279.99 for the 2TB model in June.
