Macklemore’s tour to support Palestinians, named the Free Palestine tour, quickly sold out all three shows in Dublin, Paris, and London after being announced by the Grammy-winning artist. The lineup for the shows, which will include Macklemore and special guests, is set to be revealed soon.
The tour was organized in response to Macklemore being removed as the opening act for Ed Sheeran’s U.S. tour leg. The European tour is aimed at raising funds for various Palestinian aid organizations, such as Gaza Soup Kitchen, Palestinian Youth Movement, Jewish Voice for Peace, and UNRWA USA.
Macklemore expressed his gratitude on Instagram for the overwhelming support, emphasizing the importance of musicians standing in solidarity with Palestine. Despite inquiries about bringing the tour to Canada, no official response has been provided yet.
The decision to drop Macklemore from Sheeran’s tour was influenced by threats from venue owners, including Robert Kraft of The Kraft Group. Macklemore’s longstanding pro-Palestinian stance has been evident in his public statements over the years.
Following the controversy, Sheeran addressed the situation at his Philadelphia show, clarifying his position and expressing his reluctance to be seen as an activist musician. Ultimately, the shows at Gillette Stadium were canceled due to adverse weather conditions.
