ICE Shootings Spark Outcry Across US

US immigration agents have been involved in 26 shootings since the beginning of President Donald Trump’s second term in January 2025, with the latest incident causing concern after a video was widely shared online. Among these incidents, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were responsible for 11 shootings, including the most recent one in Minneapolis.

A disturbing video surfaced showing ICE agents shooting an unarmed individual as they struggled on the ground near Glam Doll Donuts in Minneapolis. The footage captured agents firing at the man, who appeared motionless on the ground, sparking outrage and raising questions about the use of force.

Of the total ICE-related shootings, six have resulted in fatalities since the commencement of Trump’s second term. These shootings have occurred across 15 states and the District of Columbia during various enforcement actions, including traffic stops, arrests, border operations, and off-duty incidents. The Department of Homeland Security oversees federal immigration agencies like ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Notably, a disproportionate number of shootings involved officers firing at or into moving vehicles. Reports have highlighted instances where immigration officers shot at civilian vehicles, resulting in injuries and fatalities, including cases involving US citizens.

The earliest fatal shooting during this period took place in Vermont in January 2025, followed by subsequent incidents across different states. These events have drawn attention to the use of lethal force by immigration officers and sparked public demonstrations and scrutiny.
