Following the tragic death of Renee Good in Minnesota, ICE agents have adopted a new ominous phrase in their interactions with civilians.
In recent days, several videos have surfaced showing officers intimidating peaceful protesters, urging them to stop following or comply with their requests. Many of them have been heard saying phrases like “have you not learned?” in reference to the fatal shooting of a mother of three by an ICE agent in Minneapolis.
The influx of anti-Migrant enforcement personnel into the state by Donald Trump’s administration has led to escalating tensions. Renee Good was fatally shot by an ICE officer while attempting to maneuver her car past him. Despite video evidence indicating she posed no threat, Trump officials labeled her a “domestic terrorist” and defended the officer’s actions as self-defense.
Several prosecutors, including First Assistant US Attorney Joe Thompson, have resigned in protest over the Justice Department’s handling of the case. The Department of Homeland Security’s plan to deploy over 2,000 immigration officers in Minnesota prompted the state, along with Minneapolis and St. Paul, to file a lawsuit against President Donald Trump’s administration to halt or limit the deployment.
The lawsuit accuses Homeland Security of violating constitutional protections by targeting a progressive state that supports Democrats and immigrants. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey expressed concerns about the impact of a large number of federal agents entering the city, leading to a status conference scheduled for Wednesday.
Despite facing legal challenges, Homeland Security continues its aggressive immigration enforcement in Minnesota, with over 2,000 arrests made since early December. Spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin criticized Minnesota officials for disregarding public safety concerns. In response to ongoing confrontations, ICE agents deployed tear gas and eye irritants against activists, while students protested the immigration raids by walking out of a suburban school.
