Defending champions Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson clinched a 2-0 victory at the Montreal Elite stop of the FIVB Beach Pro Tour on Friday. The Toronto pair secured a commanding win with a 21-13, 21-18 triumph over Brazil’s Thamela Coradello Galil and Victoria Lopes Pereira Tosta in Pool A action. The Round of 12 and quarterfinals are scheduled for Saturday, while the semifinals and medal matches will conclude the event on Sunday.
Having previously triumphed in Montreal in 2023 and 2025, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson are aiming for their third Montreal title. Notably, there was no tournament held in Montreal in 2024.
Among the Canadian women competing, Marie-Alex Bélanger and Lea Monkhouse faced a 2-0 defeat against the U.S. duo of Donlin and Denaburg (21-10, 21-17). They are set to take on another American pair, Shaw and Phillips, later on Friday. In the men’s category, Cameron Chadwick from Barrie, Ont., and Steven Abrams from Georgetown, Ont., lost their match to the U.S. team of Taylor Crabb and Andy Benesh with a 2-1 scoreline (23-21, 21-18, 15-12).
Later on Friday, Sam Schachter and Jonny Pickett are slated to compete against Brazil’s Andre Loyola Stein and Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho.
