Goalie Connor Ingram Announces Retirement at 29

Connor Ingram, the goalie known for sharing his journey battling an undiagnosed obsessive-compulsive disorder and turning to alcohol to manage anxiety, has announced his retirement at 29. Ingram, who received the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for his resilience and commitment to hockey in 2024, revealed the news on his Instagram account, expressing gratitude to the sport and acknowledging the end of this chapter. His most recent stint was with the Edmonton Oilers during the 2025-26 season following a trade from the Utah Mammoth.

Having completed the final year of his three-year, $5.85 million US contract, Ingram now enters free agency. He initially rose through the ranks from the Bakersfield Condors, the Oilers’ American Hockey League affiliate, to establish himself as a key player in the team’s goaltending rotation. Throughout his time with the Oilers, Ingram boasted a 16-10-3 record, maintaining a 2.60 goals-against average and .899 save percentage in 32 regular-season games, including 30 starts. Additionally, he appeared in five playoff matchups.

Originally drafted in the third round (88th overall) by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2016 NHL draft, the Saskatchewan-born player accumulated a total of 134 games across five seasons, split between the Nashville Predators, Arizona Coyotes/Utah Mammoth, and the Oilers. Ingram concluded his career with a record of 55 wins, 54 losses, and 18 ties, recording nine shutouts, a 3.01 goals-against average, and a .901 save percentage.
