George R.R. Martin has shared an update with his fans through his blog, reflecting on the challenging and eventful times he has been going through. The author of the renowned Song of Ice and Fire fantasy series, which inspired the hit HBO show Game of Thrones, described the past year as a mix of fulfilling dreams and facing nightmares.
In his first post since February, Martin expressed gratitude to his team for maintaining the blog during his absence and candidly discussed the emotional highs and lows he has encountered recently. He revealed the struggles of losing friends and battling feelings of sadness and depression, acknowledging the harsh realities of aging at 77.
Despite the hardships, Martin also highlighted the positive moments he has experienced, notably celebrating the nine Emmy nominations received by the HBO series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on his novella The Hedge Knight. He expressed his desire to attend the upcoming Emmy ceremony in September.
Notably absent from Martin’s update was any mention of progress on the long-awaited sixth book in the Song of Ice and Fire series. Addressing the significant delay during a previous appearance at New York Comic Con in 2025, Martin acknowledged the challenges with meeting deadlines, emphasizing his discomfort with breaching contracts or missing publishing schedules.
