Users of various devices, including Samsung models, have encountered screen flickering issues while using the Gmail app, causing frustration among affected individuals. Some users have reported instances where text disappears or is replaced by blank white boxes within the app.
Expressing their concerns on social media platforms, one user named Jeremiah voiced his dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the malfunction on his Samsung Fold device. This user, like many others, finds the ongoing flickering problem on the inner screen of the folding phone unacceptable.
Similar grievances have surfaced on Google’s support forums, with users detailing their struggles with reading emails due to the persistent screen flickering problem. Despite attempts to troubleshoot by force-stopping the app, clearing the cache, and updating the device, the issue remains unresolved for many.
Google’s product expert, Kimiya Kitani, has identified the root cause of the problem to be associated with Android System WebView, an essential Android component enabling apps to display web content internally. Kitani acknowledged that certain devices, such as Samsung tablets, are experiencing intermittent issues with Android System WebView, noting that Google is actively addressing the situation.
While the exact number of affected users remains unclear, reports indicate that Samsung foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Fold series and specific Galaxy tablets are among the most impacted by the screen flickering problem.
In the interim, a temporary workaround has been suggested by Kitani, advising users to rotate their devices as a potential solution to stop the flickering. The recommended fix involves opening the email in portrait mode, switching to landscape mode until the screen stabilizes, and then reverting back to portrait orientation.
As users await a permanent fix from Google, employing this simple workaround may offer temporary relief from the persistent screen flickering issue.
