A well-known Brazilian bodybuilder nicknamed the real-life Popeye passed away this week at the age of 55. Arlindo de Souza, recognized for his 29-inch biceps, reportedly succumbed to multiple organ failure.
His muscular physique, achieved through the use of synthol – a hazardous blend of mineral oil and alcohol, did not provide actual strength but rather superficial muscle enlargement, leading to severe consequences. Arlindo’s friend, Pulinho, tragically died after injecting himself with the same substance, prompting Arlindo to caution against its usage, stating, “I advise everyone to never take this oil.”
Similarly, other bodybuilders like Kirill Tereshin, known as the Russian Popeye or ‘Bazooka Arms,’ have faced dire repercussions from synthol injections. Kirill, with a massive social media following, reportedly faces potential double amputation due to the damage caused by synthol injections in his arms.
In a related incident, Gregg Valentino, who gained fame for his exploded bicep while using steroids, resorted to synthol injections to enhance muscle size. However, a needle-related accident led to a severe infection, resulting in hospitalization and draining of the synthol from his arm.
Another Brazilian bodybuilder, Valdir Segato, met a tragic end at 55 due to a heart attack, linked to his use of synthol injections for extreme aesthetics. Valdir, who garnered a substantial online following, expressed his desire to continue using synthol despite medical advice to stop.
These cases underscore the dangers associated with synthol injections in the pursuit of exaggerated muscle growth, emphasizing the importance of caution and informed decision-making in the realm of bodybuilding.
