The prevalence of scams is increasing, leading to substantial financial losses daily in the UK. Cybercriminals continuously refine their strategies to deceive individuals into divulging sensitive information. EE has unveiled an enhanced version of its Scam Guard service to combat this issue, aiming to thwart more fraudulent activities targeted at mobile phones.
The upgraded protection is accessible to all EE pay-monthly mobile subscribers for a monthly fee of £2. While this may seem like an additional expense, EE assures customers that the service offers significantly improved security measures.
Since its inception in 2024, Scam Guard has thwarted 169 million scam and spam attempts. With the latest iteration, EE anticipates doubling the prevention of fraudulent schemes over the next year.
The core of the new Scam Guard features AI Triple-Lock Protection, a triad of digital safety elements driven by Norton’s Genie AI engine to ensure customer safety.
Included in this update is Safe Email, offering continuous proactive scam shielding for email accounts. Additionally, Safe SMS employs advanced AI to detect intricate scams in text messages, providing real-time protection and peace of mind. The package also incorporates Safe Web, utilizing AI to safeguard customers during online activities, preventing harm from malicious websites.
The enhanced Scam Guard introduces Scam Assistant, enabling users to upload screenshots of suspicious communications for instant feedback on their safety. Furthermore, Social Media Monitoring and Dark Web Monitoring monitor online behavior for any dubious activities, promptly alerting customers to take necessary actions.
Malcolm Cubitt, Director of Product, Mobile at EE, emphasized the importance of combating fraud in the face of increasing sophisticated scams. EE remains committed to enhancing cybersecurity measures for its customers, leveraging innovative approaches and a dedicated security team to ensure protection against evolving threats.
