“EDF Offers Free Sunday Electricity in Peak Power Reduction Challenge”

EDF is rolling out a promotion where customers can receive complimentary electricity on Sundays if they reduce their peak power consumption during weekdays. The initiative, known as the Sunday Saver challenge, will run throughout February. To qualify for the free electricity, customers are required to shift their electricity usage away from peak hours on weekdays, specifically between 4pm and 7pm.

In exchange for their efforts, participants will earn between four and 16 hours of free electricity on the subsequent Sundays. EDF customers who have a smart meter can enroll in the challenge until Sunday, February 1. Notably, EDF states that more than 260,000 households have already benefited from over 17 million free hours of electricity through the Sunday Saver initiative, resulting in £5.2 million in savings for customers.

The Sunday Saver promotion will consist of four challenges in February, scheduled for February 15 and 22, as well as March 1 and 8. Additionally, EDF recently provided over 100,000 customers with eight hours of free electricity during the Christmas period, totaling 910,536 free hours distributed to households.

One customer, Natasha Shields from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, has accrued more than 680 free hours on Sundays since participating in the challenge. Shields expressed appreciation for the program, emphasizing how it has assisted her family in managing living expenses amidst rising costs.

Jon Perks, Sales & Marketing Director at EDF, highlighted the significance of the Sunday Saver initiative, especially during the winter season when energy bills are typically higher. He emphasized that the program offers a practical way for customers to reduce costs and contribute to a more sustainable electricity grid.

Participants can monitor their progress in the Sunday Saver challenge through the Energy Hub on MyAccount, where they can access personalized insights into their household’s energy consumption. In related news, EDF is extending a £50 credit to new and existing customers who sign up for any of its electric vehicle (EV) tariffs within the next month. These EV tariffs provide five hours of discounted electricity every night between 12am and 5am for both home and vehicle charging.
