A pickup truck driver was rescued from the Bow River in Calgary on Thursday morning, as confirmed by the Calgary Fire Department. The incident, reported around 6:35 a.m., prompted fire crews to respond to the vehicle located downstream from the Zoo Bridge. Upon arrival, it was determined that the vehicle was unoccupied.
Collaborating with the Calgary Police Service and a towing company, the fire crews successfully extracted the truck from the water. Additionally, a hazardous materials team was dispatched to assess the water for potential fuel or oil leaks. They utilized absorbent materials designed for hydrocarbons to contain any possible environmental risks.
Later in the morning, at approximately 11 a.m., responders located a person on an island downstream from the truck’s location. This individual is believed to be the truck driver and was found to be alert and conscious. The challenging nature of such rescue operations involves navigating varying water depths while ensuring minimal impact on the surrounding environment.
The circumstances that led to the truck entering the river remain unclear, pending investigation by the authorities. The incident is currently under police review.
