Defending champions Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz effortlessly secured spots in the U.S. Open quarterfinals. Sabalenka defeated Taylor Townsend 6-4, 6-3 after overcoming early serving challenges. Alcaraz also advanced in straight sets, triumphing over Tommy Paul 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

Reflecting on his performance, Alcaraz expressed satisfaction, stating, “I played my game, tried to maintain my style.” Sabalenka, after a tough start where Townsend broke her serve thrice, found her rhythm and dominated the match.

Sabalenka praised the challenging encounter, noting that overcoming such obstacles builds strength and belief in one’s abilities. This marked the first meeting between Sabalenka and Townsend, with the latter feeling confident throughout the match.

Sabalenka’s next opponent is Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova, whom she described as having an aggressive playstyle with powerful serves. In a confident display, Alcaraz, returning from a wrist injury, extended his Grand Slam winning streak to 18 matches, setting up a showdown against Ben Shelton.

The U.S. Open has brought out the best in Alcaraz, who emphasized his enjoyment on the court and commitment to peak performance. The American contingent, including Townsend, Paul, Shelton, Tien, Tiafoe, and Michelsen, showcased strong performances, with Michelsen and Tiafoe set to face off in the quarterfinals.

The tournament also features an exciting all-American women’s quarterfinal matchup between Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro. American tennis has seen a resurgence, with a notable presence in the Round of 16, reflecting a strong showing by U.S. players at the Grand Slam event.
