A decorated war veteran tragically lost his life in a horrific incident at his residence during a Facebook Marketplace meetup that took a deadly turn. Michael Ryan Burke, aged 42, was reportedly involved in a simple transaction that escalated into a robbery involving a mobile phone on Sunday. In a distressing call to law enforcement, he provided descriptions of the alleged assailants before bidding a heartbreaking farewell to his family.

Authorities in Columbia, Missouri, have apprehended three 18-year-olds and one juvenile male in connection with the murder of Michael. The victim was fatally shot inside his home and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Alexis Baumann, 18, faces charges of second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and first-degree burglary, while Kobe Aust, 18, has been arrested for similar charges. Joseph Crane, 18, was detained on charges of second-degree murder, armed criminal action, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, and unlawful use of a weapon. Additionally, a male juvenile, whose identity remains undisclosed, has been taken into custody on charges mirroring those of the other suspects.

A close friend of Ryan named Jerry Reifeiss, who met him through a university fraternity, shared the harrowing details of the victim’s final moments in a poignant interview. Jerry likened Ryan’s courage during the ordeal to the resilience he displayed during his military service.

Describing Ryan’s last efforts, Jerry mentioned that the victim managed to contact emergency services and provide descriptions of the attackers while also sending heartfelt messages to his mother and sister. The Columbia Missouri Police Department confirmed that the victim, Michael Ryan Burke, 42, passed away from the injuries sustained in the shooting, with his next of kin notified.

Reflecting on Ryan’s selflessness, Jerry highlighted his friend’s character of always prioritizing others and ensuring his loved ones knew his feelings. Ryan’s actions aimed to bring justice to the perpetrators and convey his everlasting love to those close to him.

In a separate incident, a hitman disguised as a Deliveroo rider was sentenced to 38 years in prison for shooting an eight-year-old girl and her father. The assailant, Jazz Reid, fired multiple shots that injured the girl and the man, resulting in the lengthy prison term.
