“Controversy at Winter Olympics: French Judge Accused of Biased Scoring”

Allegations have surfaced against a French judge at the Winter Olympics, suggesting biased scoring to ensure a gold medal for France in figure skating. French duo Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron claimed the top spot with a total score of 225.82, narrowly surpassing Team USA’s Madison Chock and Evan Bates by just 1.43 points.

The controversy arose when the scores of French judge Jezabel Dabouis were made public, casting doubt on the integrity of the competition. Chock and Bates, previous three-time world champions in ice dance, were expected to dominate in Milan, but the results took a surprising turn after the rhythm dance segment.

During the rhythm dance phase, Fournier Beaudry and Cizeron received top marks from five judges, positioning them ahead of the American pair who settled for second place. Notably, discrepancies in scoring among the judges, especially with judge Dabouis, raised suspicion.

While five out of six judges rated Fournier Beaudry and Cizeron’s routine the highest, some judges still had Chock and Bates close behind. However, Dabouis awarded significantly higher scores to her compatriots, creating a notable gap in points between the two pairs.

In the free dance segment, the judges’ scores favored Chock and Bates, with five out of nine judges ranking them the highest. Nevertheless, Dabouis stood out by giving a considerably higher score to Fournier Beaudry and Cizeron, fueling further controversy.

Despite the outcry, the International Skating Union defended the judging process, emphasizing the inherent subjectivity in figure skating scoring. The ISU expressed confidence in the fairness and integrity of the scores issued for the event.

Following the competition, Chock and Bates reflected on their performance, acknowledging the emotional rollercoaster of the past day. They expressed pride in their achievements and resilience throughout the event, highlighting the challenges and rewards of competitive figure skating.
