“Champion Jockey Rachael Blackmore Expecting First Child”

Retired champion jockey Rachael Blackmore recently revealed that she and fellow jockey Brian Hayes are expecting their first child together. The couple, who got married in a cozy ceremony in West Cork on January 5 after a decade-long friendship, shared the exciting news through Rachael’s Instagram story.

Rachael, 36, retired from professional horse racing last year, leaving behind a remarkable legacy that included being the first female jockey to win the Grand National and clinching the title of leading jockey at Cheltenham. Throughout her career, the Tipperary-born rider achieved a total of 575 wins.

In May of the previous year, Rachael announced her retirement following her triumphant partnership with Minella Times at Aintree in 2021. She also stood out at the Cheltenham Festival in 2021, securing 18 victories, including wins in all five championship contests.

Her notable achievements in 2021 led to her receiving the World Sports Star award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards. Additionally, Rachael was honored as the greatest female jump jockey of all time by being inducted into the hall of fame at Cheltenham racecourse.

Rachael and Brian, who have been friends for over ten years since their early days in the racing world, rarely discuss racing despite their shared passion. Rachael expressed deep gratitude towards Brian for his pivotal role in her career upon her retirement, acknowledging his significant impact.

The couple, often seen together at various events like Wimbledon and music festivals, are now looking forward to embracing parenthood. Brian, 34, with a 17-year racing career, has ridden for notable figures including Willie Mullins, having secured one Cheltenham Festival victory.
