“Caution Urged for Fire TV Stick Users Amid Downloader App Scam”

Fire TV Stick users are advised to exercise caution when adding new applications to their devices. The widely used tool “Downloader” has been removed from Amazon’s Appstore, leading to the emergence of a fraudulent copycat app aimed at defrauding users.

The disappearance of Downloader from Amazon’s marketplace over the weekend has caused concern among users. For nearly a decade, Downloader has been a valuable tool for Fire TV owners, enabling them to search for and install apps that are not available through official channels.

Despite its popularity, Downloader faced a temporary suspension due to a recent update that classified it as a full web browser, contravening Amazon’s policy against third-party browsers on Fire TV devices. The developer, Elias Saba, confirmed this issue and has released an update, version 2.0.2, to address the browser identification problem in the hopes of reinstating the app on the Appstore.

During this suspension period, users are cautioned against installing a fake version of Downloader that attempts to deceive Fire TV owners into paying a weekly fee. Saba urges users to refrain from downloading this fraudulent app and to report it to Amazon if encountered.

For existing users with the legitimate Downloader installed, it is advised not to uninstall it as reinstallation will not be possible until Amazon resolves the situation. Users should also disable Auto Offload to prevent the device from automatically removing the app.

If Amazon approves the fixed version, Downloader may be reintroduced to Fire TV devices soon, but users should remain vigilant for updates on the status of the app.
