Yvonne Kyle embarks on a quest to explore all national parks across Canada. Her inspiration stemmed from a transformative trip paddling on the Nahanni River in the Northwest Territories with her children, prompting a fresh outlook on her aspirations. The catalyst for her mission was a Parks Canada centennial celebration, where she stumbled upon a Canadian Geographic article detailing park visitor statistics.
Upon discovering that only a handful of people had visited certain remote parks like Quttinirpaaq on Ellesmere Island, Yvonne was determined to experience them all. Residing in Winnipeg, she has already ventured to national parks in every province and territory, engaging in various activities such as hiking and canoeing during their visits.
One memorable stop was at Greenwich in the eastern part of Prince Edward Island National Park, which Yvonne cherished as a standout moment in the province. For her, the essence of exploring these parks goes beyond capturing photos; it’s about immersing oneself in the environment and truly understanding the location.
Their travels also led them to Sable Island in Nova Scotia, a place Yvonne described as enchanting and surreal, where they observed wild horses at a watering hole in peaceful solitude. Colin highlighted the diverse beauty of Canada’s national parks, emphasizing the importance of taking the time to appreciate the country’s natural wonders from coast to coast.
Yvonne anticipates it will take about ten years to visit all national parks in Canada, viewing her journey as a personal mission. She believes that experiencing these parks firsthand fosters a deep connection to the land, instilling a sense of responsibility to protect and preserve the natural heritage for future generations.
