International team captain Geoff Ogilvy has selected two Canadians, Corey Conners from Listowel, Ontario, and Nick Taylor from Abbotsford, British Columbia, to compete in the upcoming Presidents Cup. This marks the first time since 1998 that the International team will have two Japanese players, with Hideki Matsuyama securing one of the six automatic spots.
On the U.S. team, Jackson Koivun has been included, just three months after departing Auburn. Koivun, who recently won the 3M Open in his third professional start and qualified for the PGA Tour postseason after only five tournaments, is the first player since Jordan Spieth in 2013 to participate in the Presidents Cup without initially holding a tour card.
U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker has also chosen Jacob Bridgeman, a winner at Riviera this year, for the team. Despite an impressive performance at the Tour Championship, Snedeker decided not to select Ryan Gerard, who ranked 22nd globally.
The Presidents Cup is scheduled for September 24-27 at Medinah, a course entirely renovated by Ogilvy’s Australia-based golf course design company.
