Beloved Lancashire Hotel, Guy’s Thatched Hamlet, Shuts Down

After 46 years of operation, a well-known hotel and restaurant abruptly closed its doors, causing distress among loyal patrons. Guys Thatched Hamlet, situated near Bilsborrow in Lancashire off the A6, has officially ceased operations. The closure led to the redundancy of all staff members.

A closure notice has been affixed to the hotel’s entrance, signaling the end of its long-standing presence. The expansive site spanned nearly 14 acres and encompassed various amenities such as a tavern, restaurant, sports pavilion, function rooms, a cricket ground, bowling green, and three parking lots.

According to the Lancashire Post, the notice posted at the location stated, “After 46 years of trading, we can confirm Guy’s Thatched Hamlet has now closed. This decision, though difficult, was made after careful consideration. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our patrons, employees, and suppliers for their unwavering loyalty and support over the years.”

Distraught customers took to social media to express their sorrow over the closure. Many shared sentimental memories, with one reminiscing about a proposal at the venue in 2012, while another lamented their engagement at the establishment in 2015.

The Wilkinson family has overseen the business since 1980 and had listed it for sale last year, citing an approximate net turnover of £4.2 million. The property’s prime location near the Lake District, Fylde Coast, and the Trough of Bowland, along with its 65 en suite bedrooms and diverse clientele, made it a sought-after destination.

Having been under the ownership of the current clients for over four decades, Guy’s Thatched Hamlet had undergone extensive renovations and expansions, solidifying its reputation as a premier establishment in the North West. The business flourished year-round, particularly during peak seasons like summer and holidays.
