“BC Gang Task Force Joins RCMP in Combatting Gun Violence”

The gang task force in British Columbia is collaborating with the RCMP in Fort St. John to address a recent surge in gun-related incidents. Following three targeted shootings near local schools since July 22, city officials are advocating for increased police presence. Four individuals have sustained injuries, with one suspect charged and several others still being sought by law enforcement.

Sgt. Sarbjit K. Sangha of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) confirmed that they have been asked for assistance by local RCMP and are preparing to deploy the Uniform Gang Enforcement Team promptly. Multiple residences and vehicles have been struck by bullets during the shootings, prompting Mayor Lilia Hansen’s concerns about the potential harm to innocent bystanders.

Moreover, local councillor Trevor Bolin is pushing for enhanced municipal powers to seize properties associated with gang activities and violent crimes. He aims to introduce motions that would impose higher fines on properties requiring repeated police, fire, and bylaw responses. Bolin also advocates for the implementation of a “good neighbor” bylaw, similar to the one in Williams Lake, which could penalize nuisance properties with fines up to $1,200 under a “three-strike” policy.

While the arrival timeline of the gang unit in Fort St. John remains uncertain, Sgt. Jaime Moffat, the RCMP detachment commander, expressed deep concern over the shootings and called for public assistance. Moffat emphasized the importance of reporting any suspicious activities to prevent future incidents.

Residents are urged to stay vigilant and report any abnormal behavior to aid law enforcement efforts in addressing the escalating violence in the community.
