“World Nomad Games Showcase Traditional Sports in Kyrgyzstan”

The World Nomad Games, a celebration of traditional nomadic sports and culture, are currently underway in Kyrgyzstan. Athletes representing 104 countries are participating in the event, which highlights sports popular among Turkic peoples in Central Asia. The games are set to conclude this Sunday.

Located in Kyrchyn Gorge, approximately 314 kilometers east of Bishkek, the venue has been bustling with participants and spectators throughout the 6th edition of the Games. Images captured at the event show competitors showcasing their skills with hunting birds, horseback riding, archery, and other traditional disciplines.

One captivating competition involves riders from Kazakhstan engaging in “tyiyn enmei” (pick up the coin), where they must gallop at high speeds while picking up coins or pouches from the ground without dismounting. Additionally, teams from Uzbekistan and Russia faced off in the intense Central Asian sport of “kok-boru” or “buzkashi,” where mounted players vie for points by tossing the carcass of a headless goat into a designated area.

Apart from the competitive events, attendees are also enjoying the culinary delights and admiring the craftsmanship on display at the festival. From traditional bread-making to pottery demonstrations and wool spooling by Kyrgyz women, the games offer a rich cultural experience for all visitors.
