“Mother of Slain Toronto Officer Launches Foundation”

Linda Pinizzotto, the mother of a Toronto police officer who tragically lost his life while on duty, has recently established the Marc Pinizzotto Foundation to honor his memory. The foundation’s primary goal is to provide children with opportunities to engage in sports, art, and music activities, aiming to reduce their screen time and foster the development of safe communities.

In light of the untimely passing of Constable Marc Pinizzotto, a devoted husband and father of two, who was fatally shot during a search warrant operation in the Black Creek and Trethewey Drive area, his mother emphasized the importance of continuing his legacy of advocating for secure neighborhoods. The incident occurred while officers were investigating a series of shootings, with Pinizzotto being the first to enter the premises. The suspect, a 19-year-old individual named Nicholas Bennett, has since been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the officer’s death.

Following the tragic event, Linda Pinizzotto swiftly turned her grief into a positive force by initiating the foundation as a means to honor her son’s memory and contribute positively to the community. Reflecting on her family’s strength in the face of adversity, she highlighted the significance of providing children with enriching experiences, drawing from her sons’ upbringing centered around hockey and piano.

The Marc Pinizzotto Foundation, operating as a federal non-profit organization, will collaborate with various stakeholders, including individuals, law enforcement, and policymakers, to drive its mission forward. Through donations and partnerships, the foundation aims to support community outreach programs, sports and arts initiatives, fundraising efforts, as well as educational and mentorship activities. Additionally, it seeks to promote academic excellence, leadership skills, community engagement, and personal growth among children and youth.

In response to escalating youth crime rates, Linda Pinizzotto emphasized the need for reforms within the Youth Criminal Justice Act, particularly regarding the treatment of young offenders. The Toronto Police Association, representing a significant number of law enforcement professionals, has been actively advocating for legislative changes to address this issue.

With a strong commitment to enhancing emotional, mental, and physical well-being, the Marc Pinizzotto Foundation envisions making a positive impact on individuals’ holistic health and overall quality of life.
