“Edmonton Police Shooting Under Investigation”

Alberta’s law enforcement oversight agency is currently looking into a shooting incident involving Edmonton police that resulted in the death of a 57-year-old man in the western part of the city. According to a press release issued by the police on Tuesday, they were called to respond to a report of weapons at 7:14 p.m. on Monday. The report indicated that there were two men inside a hotel room located near Stony Plain Road and 178th Street, with one of them possessing a firearm.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), responsible for investigating such incidents, confirmed to CBC News that the event took place at the Hilton Garden Inn near Stony Plain Road. Upon arrival at the scene, the police cordoned off the area and attempted to establish communication with the individuals involved. A man was observed exiting and entering the confined hotel room multiple times before allegedly advancing towards the officers with a pair of scissors, as per the police account.

In response to the perceived threat, two officers discharged their firearms, resulting in the death of the 57-year-old man at the scene. Despite efforts to administer life-saving measures, the man could not be revived. Fortunately, no law enforcement or emergency personnel sustained any injuries during the incident.
