The recent passing of Hayden Panettiere has been determined as accidental, with the cause of death attributed to the “toxic effects” of a mixture of drugs, including fentanyl, as reported by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office. Panettiere, renowned for her roles in TV series such as Heroes and Nashville, passed away on August 16 at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina, where she was residing. Upon the emergency responders’ arrival at the location, Panettiere was found in cardiac arrest, and their resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.
After conducting a collaborative investigation with the Greenville City Police Department, the Coroner’s Office officially confirmed in a statement to CBC News that the cause of death was due to the toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, Alprazolam, Methocarbamol, and Quetiapine. Quetiapine is a medication used to treat conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, while Alprazolam is prescribed for anxiety and panic disorders. Methocarbamol acts as a muscle relaxant, and 4-ANPP is a compound associated with fentanyl production, a potent opioid.
The autopsy revealed no signs of trauma contributing to Panettiere’s death. Additionally, reports from the Associated Press disclosed that Panettiere had been discharged from a rehabilitation facility in Malibu, California, shortly before her demise. The actress, who passed away just days before turning 37, had openly shared her struggles with early fame, addiction, and mental health, including postpartum depression after the birth of her daughter in 2014. Panettiere had candidly discussed her life experiences in interviews and her recent memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning.
Following her death, an outpouring of tributes and memories flooded in from colleagues and admirers.
