Driver Jody Jamieson and his horse Fifth and Five emerged victorious in the 67th edition of the Gold Cup and Saucer race held on Saturday night in Charlottetown. This win marked a historic moment as Jamieson’s father had also clinched victory in the same race back in 2006, making them the first father-and-son duo to achieve this feat.
Expressing his elation, Jamieson described the win as a dream come true, highlighting the prestige of the event. The Gold Cup and Saucer race, boasting a $100,000 prize, attracts participants from various parts of North America to the Red Shores Racetrack and Casino annually.
Having watched the race since a young age, Jamieson recalled his father’s memorable win in 2006 with the longshot Banner Yankee at 11-to-1 odds. However, he now considers his own triumph with Fifth and Five as his favorite race victory, emphasizing the significance of this achievement.
Throughout the race, Jamieson maintained his strategy of closely following the horse and driver in the first post position, ultimately securing victory with a time of 1:49.4. He praised Fifth and Five for meeting all the necessary criteria for success, describing the horse as ideal for the track.
