One individual has died and another has sustained serious injuries following a head-on collision involving a pickup truck and a commercial truck in Crapaud on Wednesday. The incident occurred on Route 1, close to the Route 13 junction around 5 p.m., as per a press release from P.E.I. RCMP issued on Thursday.
According to the release, initial findings suggest that the commercial truck veered across the center line, colliding with the pickup truck. A 63-year-old man from Ontario was declared deceased at the scene, while a woman was transported to the hospital with critical injuries. The sole occupant of the other vehicle suffered minor wounds.
Law enforcement authorities have stated that alcohol and drugs are unlikely to have played a role in the accident, with investigations still ongoing. Emergency services from Crapaud Fire Department and Island EMS responded to the scene, and the road remained shut for several hours to allow a collision reconstruction expert to assess the area.
