“16-Year-Old Charged with Second-Degree Murder in Edmonton”

A 16-year-old teenager faces second-degree murder charges following the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old girl in the Hairsine area of Edmonton. Due to being a minor, the accused individual is protected from public identification under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

According to a statement released on Sunday by the Edmonton Police Service (EPS), law enforcement responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 6:50 a.m. in the vicinity of 139th Avenue and 32nd Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a critically injured 16-year-old girl. Despite immediate first aid efforts by the police, the young girl succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Subsequent to an autopsy findings disclosed in a press release on Wednesday, the girl’s death was confirmed as a homicide resulting from a gunshot wound. Staff Sgt. Rob Bilawey of the EPS Homicide Section expressed condolences to the impacted families, friends, and community members, emphasizing the tragic nature of such incidents involving young individuals.

The EPS underlined the ongoing nature of their investigation into the homicide case, emphasizing the imperative role of collaborative efforts between families, schools, community entities, and law enforcement in providing support to youth and preventing violent occurrences.
