Service on Montreal’s light-rail network has returned to normal following multiple disruptions on Wednesday morning. Pulsar, the operator of REM, is scheduled to address the situation in a news conference at 3 p.m.
The first interruption was reported before 6 a.m., leading to the suspension of service between Brossard and Gare Centrale stations. An hour later, the disruption extended to the Côte-de-Liesse station, with service reductions between Deux-Montagnes to Côte-de-Liesse and Anse-à-l’Orme to Côte-de-Liesse.
By 9 a.m., service resumed between Côte-de-Liesse and Gare Centrale, although it remained suspended between Brossard and Gare Centrale. Approximately thirty minutes later, service gradually returned across the network.
According to the REM, the service disruptions on the three branches were attributed to an “equipment breakdown on track.” Around 10:15 a.m., another service suspension was reported on the REM’s website, this time between Panama and Gare Centrale stations. This incident was caused by a truck colliding with the underside of an overpass used by the REM near Gare Centrale. Service was restored across the network about an hour later.
Transport Minister Benoit Charette expressed his concerns about the ongoing disruptions on the REM and their impact on commuters. He emphasized the need for Pulsar to clarify the causes of these disruptions and outline preventive measures.
The REM’s website provides a tool for users to explore alternative travel options during service interruptions, including shuttles, buses, and other transit services.
