“Canada Secures Historic Bronze in Flag Football, Earns 2028 Olympics Berth”

Winnipeg resident Jackson Tachinski expressed deep emotions as Canada’s men’s flag football squad made history at the IFAF World Flag Football Championships in Dusseldorf, Germany. The team secured a bronze medal by defeating Mexico with a 34-26 victory, highlighted by a crucial interception by Guillaume BĂ©land in overtime. This win not only marked a significant achievement but also secured Canada’s spot at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where flag football will feature for the first time.

Tachinski described the moment after the interception as overwhelming, stating that it was an indescribable experience. He expressed his speechlessness regarding the win and his anticipation of potentially representing Canada at the upcoming Olympics. The women’s team also secured their Olympic berth by defeating the U.S. 27-20, concluding an undefeated run, with Sara Parker named the tournament’s most valuable player.

Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea commended both teams, expressing immense pride and admiration for their accomplishments. Notably, CFL and NFL players will have the opportunity to participate in flag football at the 2028 Olympics. Blue Bombers receiver Nic Demski, considering the possibility of joining the Olympic team, emphasized the honor of representing the country on a global stage.

Team Canada head coach Paul LaPolice, formerly associated with the Blue Bombers, acknowledged the potential addition of CFL or NFL players to the roster in the future. He highlighted the inclusive and exciting nature of flag football, emphasizing its accessibility and creative gameplay, which contribute to its growing popularity. Football Manitoba CEO Bill Johnson noted that the recent achievements and exposure at the Olympics will further elevate the profile of flag football and attract more participants due to its dynamic and engaging style of play.
