The team secured a bronze medal by defeating Mexico with a 34-26 victory, highlighted by a crucial interception by Guillaume Béland in overtime. This win not only marked a significant achievement but also secured Canada’s spot at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where flag football will feature for the first time.
Tachinski described the moment after the interception as overwhelming, stating that it was an indescribable experience. He expressed his speechlessness regarding the win and his anticipation of potentially representing Canada at the upcoming Olympics. The women’s team also secured their Olympic berth by defeating the U.S. 27-20, concluding an undefeated run, with Sara Parker named the tournament’s most valuable player.
Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea commended both teams, expressing immense pride and admiration for their accomplishments. Notably, CFL and NFL players will have the opportunity to participate in flag football at the 2028 Olympics. Blue Bombers receiver Nic Demski, considering the possibility of joining the Olympic team, emphasized the honor of representing the country on a global stage.
