McDonald, who typically plays from the silver tees, completed the almost 5,800-yard course by shooting 72, surpassing the expectations of many in the golfing community. Shooting one’s age in golf is considered a significant accomplishment, and McDonald exceeded this milestone by an impressive 13 strokes.
A regular at the golf course, McDonald plays three to four times a week and often walks the course, emphasizing the importance of physical fitness for his continued success in the sport. Despite facing some health challenges in the past, McDonald remains committed to golf and maintains a positive outlook on staying active and engaged.

McDonald’s journey into golf began at the age of 30 while serving in the air force in Cape Breton. Following his retirement from the military, McDonald continued to excel in golf, winning the provincial senior men’s championship multiple times and earning recognition in the Cape Breton Sport Hall of Fame in 2005.
