“FIFA COO Kevin Lamour Departs Amid World Cup Sale Dispute”

FIFA’s Chief Operating Officer, Kevin Lamour, has officially departed from the organization, as confirmed by FIFA on Monday. This development follows Lamour’s public criticism of President Gianni Infantino’s proposal to sell a portion of FIFA’s tournament business, which includes the prestigious World Cup.

A FIFA spokesperson announced the conclusion of the working relationship between FIFA and Lamour, expressing gratitude for Lamour’s two years of service and extending best wishes for his future endeavors. Further details on the matter will not be disclosed, as per the spokesperson’s statement.

The departure of Lamour was communicated to FIFA staff and Council members by FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom in a letter, indicating that both parties mutually agreed to part ways after recent discussions.

Lamour had raised objections to the proposal last month, alleging that FIFA staff had been misled about the plan and criticizing it as an initiative driven by one individual’s agenda. He emphasized the importance of serving football’s interests rather than catering to personal ambitions within FIFA.

The criticism from Lamour came shortly after another senior advisor to Infantino, Carlos Cordeiro, resigned in protest against the sell-off plan, labeling it detrimental to football’s welfare.

Having joined FIFA in November 2024, Lamour was previously associated with Infantino’s inner circle, which actively supported Infantino’s successful presidential campaign in 2016.
