Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that the current season in the Saudi Pro League could mark the end of his illustrious football career. The 41-year-old football icon’s contract with Al-Nassr in Riyadh, inked in December 2022, is set to expire in June, with little possibility of an extension, as per his interview with Vogue magazine.
Expressing his sentiments, Ronaldo stated, “This is probably my final year in football, and I aim to leave behind a remarkable legacy.” Having netted an impressive 976 career goals, the Portuguese forward recently tied the knot with his long-time partner, Georgina Rodriguez.
Planning for the future, Ronaldo shared, “I have my post-football life all planned out. There are many pursuits awaiting me, making it challenging to pinpoint just one. Football’s absence will create a void, necessitating diversification of activities to fill the void effectively.”
Looking ahead, the seasoned player emphasized, “I intend to have more fun, travel extensively, engage in padel – a sport I adore, and continue relishing the fruits of our labor. It’s been a journey of 25 years marked by immense sacrifices.”
The ongoing 2026-27 SPL season marks Ronaldo’s 25th year as a professional athlete. Throughout his career, he has clinched five Ballon d’Or accolades and five UEFA Champions League triumphs.
Ronaldo’s exceptional performance, with 28 league goals last season, propelled Al-Nassr to clinch the Saudi Arabian championship in May, securing his inaugural trophy with the club since joining in Riyadh and the first league title for Al-Nassr since 2019.
Following his recent nuptials, Ronaldo sat out Al-Nassr’s initial match in their title defense, witnessing their 3-0 victory over Al-Fateh from the sidelines. Coach Ange Postecoglou acknowledged Ronaldo’s presence, affirming his continuous support for the team.
Looking ahead, Ronaldo may feature in the upcoming match against Al-Diriyah in the King’s Cup on Tuesday. Postecoglou emphasized the significance of recovery, particularly given the tight schedule post the previous match.
