Bowdish emphasized the severe health consequences associated with measles infection, including fever, cough, rash, and potentially fatal complications like pneumonia and encephalitis. She expressed dismay over Canada’s loss of measles elimination status and stressed the importance of vaccination compliance.
Factors contributing to the rise in measles cases in Canada include the absence of a national vaccine registry, limited access to vaccinations through family doctors, and lenient exemption rules that undermine school vaccination mandates.
