“Longtime City Councillor Ed Sleiman Opts Out of Re-Election”

Ed Sleiman, a longstanding city councillor for Ward 5, has announced his decision not to seek re-election in the upcoming fall. Serving since his initial election in 2010, Sleiman expressed that he had been contemplating his future over the past year, pondering whether to continue his role or make way for fresh perspectives on the council.

At 83 years old, Sleiman emphasized the importance of introducing new voices to the city council and acknowledged that his age played a role in his choice not to pursue another term. His decision aligns with those of fellow councillors, Jo Anne Gignac from Ward 6 and Mark McKenzie from Ward 4, who have also opted not to run in the upcoming election.

Reflecting on his tenure, Sleiman highlighted his dedication to improving the lives of residents in Ford City and east Windsor as his driving force for seeking re-election. Mayor Drew Dilkens commended Sleiman’s unwavering commitment, citing instances where Sleiman went above and beyond his duties, such as personally assisting residents with tasks like fixing leaks and moving furniture.

Despite his decision to step down, Sleiman expressed his willingness to support his successor and remain involved in community initiatives post-council. His years of service have been marked by a genuine desire to make a positive impact, a sentiment he intends to carry forward beyond his time in office.
