The Ottawa Rapid have introduced Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. Moscato, a Canada Soccer Hall of Famer who participated in multiple Women’s World Cups and earned a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics, brings a wealth of experience to the role after coaching stints in Denmark, Mexico, and most recently, Saudi Arabia.
Replacing current head coach Katrine Pedersen, who announced her departure from the Northern Super League leaders last month, Moscato has signed a two-season contract with the team. She will commence her duties this year, focusing on preparations for the 2027 season, including player recruitment.
Team CEO Thomas Gilbert expressed confidence in Moscato’s leadership abilities and extensive soccer knowledge, emphasizing her understanding of Canadian soccer. Moscato, in turn, expressed eagerness to enhance the team’s existing foundation and create an environment that fosters player development and high-level competition.
With a strong performance this season, Ottawa leads the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 matches, with their last defeat dating back to late May. The Rapid’s upcoming match is scheduled in Calgary at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and fans can watch it live on CBC Gem.
