Count Nikolai of Monpezat, grandson of Queen Margrethe II, is thrilled about his new acting opportunity. The 26-year-old, known for his modeling work, is making his acting debut in the film adaptation of the 1905 Swedish novel, Doktor Glas, by Hjalmar Söderberg.
Expressing his excitement for this new venture, Count Nikolai, son of Prince Joachim, shared his enthusiasm for exploring a different field of work. In the upcoming movie, he will portray the character of Patrick Gregorius’s half-brother.
During a recent interview, Count Nikolai described his role as the brother of the antagonist in the film, stating, “I’m sort of this unconventional, free-spirited brother.” Despite feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness upon receiving the script for the first time, he emphasized his overall enthusiasm for the project.
While accustomed to the limelight due to his upbringing and past modeling gigs for brands like Burberry, Count Nikolai views his acting role as a temporary job rather than a long-term career. Reflecting on his experience working on the Dr. Glas film, he mentioned how collaborating with a talented team in a fresh environment has bolstered his confidence on set.
Acknowledging his interest in cinema, Count Nikolai acknowledged that his transition into acting felt natural with the casting opportunity. He recognized the contrast between modeling, where he poses statically, and the dynamic nature of acting.
Looking ahead, although not ruling out a full-time acting career, Count Nikolai, who also serves as a consultant in the property sector, intends to evaluate his future roles after seeing the final outcome of his current project.
In early 2023, it was announced that Queen Margrethe had decided to revoke the prince and princess titles of the children of Prince Joachim, Count Nikolai being one of them. This decision aimed to grant the grandchildren more freedom in shaping their lives without the constraints associated with formal royal affiliations.
Reflecting on his changed status, Count Nikolai expressed shock and sadness over losing his princely title, emphasizing the abruptness of the decision and its impact on him and his family. He also highlighted the unique bond between Queen Margrethe II and Queen Elizabeth, referring to them as “Daisy” and “Lilibet,” respectively.
