“Former Tory Minister Accused of Betrayal and Self-Interest”

Robert Jenrick, a former Tory minister, has faced criticism from senior Tories who label him a “snake” and a “mediocre middle manager” set to harm Reform UK from within. Jenrick was ousted from the Conservative Party this week after evidence emerged that he was planning to defect, according to statements by Kemi Badenoch. Tory chairman Kevin Hollinrake attributed Jenrick’s departure to bitterness stemming from not being chosen for the Home Secretary position, expressing disappointment in Jenrick’s focus on personal interests over those of the party and the nation.

Former Justice Secretary Robert Buckland praised Badenoch’s handling of the situation and suggested that Jenrick’s move to Reform UK would shift the party dynamics. Buckland criticized Jenrick for his behavior, likening him to Enoch Powell and questioning his motives for claiming the defection was for the benefit of the country. Another Tory source criticized Jenrick’s ambition as being self-centered and lacking loyalty, describing him as a traitor with a penchant for deception.

Moreover, a different senior Tory accused Jenrick of prioritizing his own interests over the welfare of the country, labeling him a “snake” and a subpar manager during his time in government. The individual highlighted Jenrick’s tendency to deflect blame for failures without acknowledging his own responsibilities. The sentiment expressed was relief that Jenrick did not hold more ministerial positions, implying that he may have been a hindrance all along.
