Conor McGregor has officially announced that he will not be participating in the UFC’s event at the White House.
Initially rumored to be the main event on President Donald Trump’s premises on June 14 against Michael Chandler, McGregor is now anticipated to make his return to the octagon in July instead. UFC CEO Dana White is set to unveil the White House card on Saturday night, but McGregor’s name is now likely to be missing from the lineup, as he is expected to fight on July 11.
Speaking to Smash Cast, McGregor expressed his initial interest in fighting at the White House against Chandler, praising his opponent’s skills and acknowledging the potential for an exciting matchup. However, plans shifted, and McGregor is now preparing to fight at the International Fight Week instead.
McGregor also confirmed that his return to the cage will be in the welterweight division, emphasizing his increased size and readiness to take on any opponent offered to him. Despite the absence of a signed contract, McGregor remains optimistic as his manager is in Las Vegas for discussions regarding his next fight.
Meanwhile, the White House event may feature Jon Jones making his comeback, possibly facing former middleweight and light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, who recently vacated his 205lb title.
