“Healey Warns Against Farage’s National Security Role”

Defence Secretary John Healey has expressed concerns about entrusting Nigel Farage with the security of the United Kingdom. This warning follows Farage’s opposition to government proposals for UK troop deployment in Ukraine as part of a potential peace agreement. Healey emphasized his lack of confidence in Farage’s judgment regarding national security, citing Farage’s refusal to support British troops and his admiration for Russian President Putin, along with the association of Farage’s party with Russian interests.

The Defence Secretary also highlighted the case of Nathan Gill, a former leader of Reform UK in Wales, who was sentenced to over a decade in prison for accepting Russian bribes while serving in the European Parliament. He referred to Farage’s past comments praising Putin’s strategic actions in Syria, despite political disagreements.

In contrast, Labour Party leader Keir Starmer has outlined plans for establishing military hubs in Ukraine alongside France to bolster its defense capabilities in the event of a ceasefire agreement. He pledged a parliamentary vote on deploying troops post-ceasefire. However, Farage has vehemently opposed these initiatives, questioning the feasibility and sustainability of long-term military commitments.

Healey affirmed his confidence in the readiness and capability of British forces to fulfill their defensive and deterrent roles worldwide. Looking ahead, he expressed hope for continued international support for Ukraine and stressed the importance of holding Putin accountable for his actions to achieve lasting peace in the region.

Amid escalating global threats, including Putin’s military activities and cyber incursions, Healey acknowledged the growing challenges faced by the international community. A spokesperson for Reform UK defended Farage’s stance, emphasizing the party’s commitment to defending NATO airspace but cautioning against any peace deal that could be perceived as advantageous to Putin.
