Frankie Dettori Retires after Brazilian Triumph

Frankie Dettori has officially retired after a remarkable victory in Brazil, triumphing in the first leg of the nation’s Triple Crown. Initially planning to retire at Ascot’s Champions Day in October 2023, the renowned jockey had a change of heart and decided to extend his career in the United States.

At the age of 55, Dettori announced last November that his competitive journey would conclude at the Breeders’ Cup in Del Mar before embarking on a brief farewell tour in South America, culminating at the Gavea racecourse in Rio de Janeiro. In a dazzling display of skill, he rode to victory on Speak Alpha and then on Bet You Can in the Brazilian 2,000 Guineas, known as the Grande Premio Estado do Rio De Janeiro.

This final triumph allowed Dettori to showcase his iconic flying dismount celebration one last time. Reflecting on his grand finale, he expressed his gratitude, stating, “I never expected to win a Group 1 on my last day. It’s been brilliant. I was very emotional. I enjoyed everything. I’ve had a beautiful career, and I’m grateful I can leave the sport unharmed.”

While bidding farewell to his illustrious jockey career, Dettori shared his future plans, revealing that he will remain actively involved in racing as a global ambassador for Kia Joorabchian’s Amo Racing. In a heartfelt message to his fans on social media, he reminisced about his lifelong dedication to horse racing, acknowledging the invaluable support of his family, colleagues, and supporters who made his dream a reality.
