“WhatsApp Ends Support for Older iPhones: Upgrade or Risk Ban”

WhatsApp has recently declared the discontinuation of support for certain older models of iPhones, which took effect earlier this week. This change implies that users with older iPhones will no longer be able to use the messaging, calling, and texting features on the platform, unless they upgrade to a newer device.

“Starting May 5, 2025, only iOS versions 15.1 and above will be compatible,” WhatsApp stated. The devices affected by this update include the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6s.

For individuals still utilizing these particular iPhone models, WhatsApp issues a caution that should not be overlooked. Despite the termination of support, there may be a temptation to download unofficial versions of WhatsApp from various online sources.

However, installing applications that have not been verified by the Meta-owned service could result in serious consequences. WhatsApp clarified that unofficial apps are counterfeit versions developed by third parties, violating their Terms of Service and lacking validated security measures.

Using such unauthorized applications may lead to a temporary ban, which could escalate to a permanent block. WhatsApp advises users to switch to the official app or refrain from engaging in activities that violate the service’s policies to avoid potential permanent bans.

Although installing apps via sideloading on iPhones is complex, all users should be mindful of this alert. The recommended approach is to stick with official apps sourced from reputable platforms like the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
