Wakefield Council Distributes £70 Supermarket Vouchers to Low-Income Households

Households in a specific UK region are receiving £70 supermarket vouchers to assist with living expenses. This initiative is part of the Household Support Fund provided by Wakefield Council. The fund offers various types of assistance such as energy support, supermarket vouchers, and cash grants tailored to each council’s program.

Wakefield Council is specifically targeting low-income households receiving council tax help by distributing food vouchers. Pensioners benefiting from Council Tax Support have already received a £70 voucher in November, with additional vouchers planned for other eligible households.

Starting from December 15, families receiving Council Tax Support will receive a £50 voucher, while all other eligible households will receive a £70 voucher between December 3 and December 12. Eligible recipients do not need to apply for these vouchers as they will be automatically dispatched within 14 days of the specified dates. Residents are advised to be cautious of potential scammers targeting them.

It is important for residents outside Wakefield to explore the support available through their local councils via the Household Support Fund. For instance, Blackpool Council is offering £200 energy assistance to qualifying households of one or two individuals, including children, and £300 for households with three or more individuals, including children.

To qualify for support, individuals must demonstrate financial hardship and difficulties in paying bills, requiring submission of recent bank statements for all household members. Claimants are not mandated to be in receipt of Universal Credit or other benefits, but can only receive one award within a 12-month period.

The financial aid is directly transferred to the energy provider and reflected as a credit on utility bills or pre-payment meters. Interested parties can apply through the Blackpool Council website. In a similar initiative, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is issuing £120 worth of free vouchers to eligible residents, aiming to provide financial relief and support during these challenging times.
