The upgrade will target users still utilizing older Hub 3 and Hub 4 devices, offering a transition to the more advanced Hub 5 at no additional cost. The Hub 5 boasts improved Wi-Fi 6 technology for faster and more reliable connections.
Eligible customers will receive notifications via email in the following weeks and months as the upgrade is gradually implemented throughout 2026. The Hub 5 is equipped with Wi-Fi 6 technology and features seven internal antennas to ensure enhanced and consistent coverage within households. Virgin Media plans to benefit thousands of customers by transitioning them to the latest router model during the year.
Customers do not need to take any immediate action unless directly contacted by Virgin Media. They can also verify their eligibility by accessing their My Virgin Media account online. Checking the router model can be done by inspecting the device’s sticker or logging into the Virgin Media Connect app.
Upgrading to the Hub 5 router can significantly enhance broadband performance, providing wider Wi-Fi coverage, improved stability, and readiness for future updates. It is optimized to support faster Gig1 speeds, resulting in quicker downloads and streaming experiences. Gig1 speeds will allow users to download a full HD movie in less than 40 seconds, significantly surpassing the UK average.
