Amidst the rising temperatures in Britain and the closure of schools for summer break, Cornwall’s beautiful beaches are attracting crowds. However, a hidden gem has been uncovered for those seeking solace away from the busy shores.
Tucked away on the eastern side of the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall, this secluded beach is renowned for its peaceful atmosphere and is a popular spot for snorkeling. It remains undiscovered by many due to the coastal path diverting around the nearby quarries at Dean Point and Porthoustock, thus bypassing this serene location nestled between the two quarries.
Known as Leggan Cove, this unspoiled beach offers a stunning retreat ideal for families, especially those with young children. Accessing the beach is relatively easy and safe, eliminating the need for precarious descents down steep cliffs or rocky paths to reach this hidden paradise.
The beach features unique coarse grey sand that contrasts beautifully with the clear blue sea that surrounds it. Additionally, children can enjoy exploring several rock pools, as reported by the Express.
The tranquility of Leggan Cove can be attributed to its remote setting, requiring a considerable walk from the nearest car park in the charming village of Rosenithon. This seclusion ensures that the beach maintains its peaceful ambiance even during the bustling summer season.
Nestled on the sheltered eastern side of the Lizard Peninsula, Leggan Cove is embraced by gently sloping cliffs and offers calm waters, making it an ideal location for snorkeling and swimming. For those who prefer to stay dry, the rock pools at the cove, visible during low tide, provide ample entertainment.
While dogs are welcome on the beach year-round, visitors are reminded to take precautions as there are no lifeguards on duty. Bringing along snacks and essentials is advised, as there are no facilities at Leggan Cove for beachgoers’ convenience.
Just over a mile offshore from Leggan Cove lies the partially submerged Mannacles reef, a hazardous area that has tragically claimed many lives throughout history.
To reach Leggan Cove, visitors are encouraged to follow the coastal path from the village of Rosenithon rather than attempting a direct route. This picturesque spot can be accessed by crossing the sand at low tide or navigating over rocks when the tide is high, situated to the left of Godrevy Cove.
