The police are investigating the death of a streamer who is suspected of overdosing while participating in a drug-related online challenge. Sergio Jimenez, aged 37, reportedly consumed a bottle of whisky and snorted six grams of cocaine within a three-hour period. He was discovered in a praying position on his bed at his residence in Barcelona, Spain.
During the incident, a webcam was left on and the live stream continued, with reports indicating that a group of private viewers paid to watch the online stunt on New Year’s Eve. Some of these viewers allegedly made comments such as “are you sleeping off a hangover?” and “haven’t you finished off the whisky yet?”.
Authorities have launched an investigation into what is believed to be the first death resulting from an extreme online challenge in Spain. The possibility of criminal conduct involving the encouragement of risky behavior is being considered.
Sergio’s mother, Teresa, shared that her other son had previously warned the family about Sergio’s online activities. She recounted finding Sergio in a kneeling position on his bed, unresponsive to her attempts to communicate with him. Unfortunately, Sergio had passed away before emergency services could be contacted.
Teresa mentioned to the police that she had advised Sergio against consuming alcohol due to his medication for psychiatric conditions. It is suggested that Sergio might have been inspired by Simon Perez, an online personality known for his drug-related content.
Simon Perez expressed his condolences in a YouTube video, highlighting the dangers of drug use and the tragic outcome in Sergio’s case. The incident brings to mind the death of Raphael Graven, also known as Jean Pormanove, who was found deceased after engaging in extreme behavior during an online livestream.
Raphael Graven, a Frenchman, was discovered dead at his residence in Contes, Alpes-Maritimes, France. The series of events leading to his death included sleep deprivation, exposure to toxic substances, and a period of intense online activity.
